1916 Karess Woodworth Gold Rouge Compact Antique
This is a wonderful antique 1916 gold tone guilloche and blue enamel trim Karess Woodworth rouge and mirror compact. It's in excellent vintage condition, with no dents or dings. It has a wonderful patina and comes complete with the original blue powder puff and some of the original rouge. The mirror is in excellent shape with no damage; and it still casts a crisp reflection. The piece has a pretty Greek key blue enamel design all around the top edge of the lid.
The hinges and closure work perfectly, and it measures approximately 1 1/2 inches in diameter and 7/16th of an inch in depth. It's hallmarked "Karess Woodworth" on the frame under the mirror.
Guilloche is a decorative engraving technique in which a very precise intricate repetitive pattern or design is mechanically engraved into a metal material with fine detail. Specifically, it involves a technique of engine turning, called guilloché in French after the French engineer “Guillot”, who invented a machine “that could scratch fine patterns and designs on metallic surfaces”.
