Piccadilly Soldered Mesh Purse Whiting & Davis Compact Sapphire Clasp Bag 1920s Flapper Evening Bag Formal Purse RARE
This is a lovely antique early 1920's Whiting & Davis soldered silver mesh Piccadilly purse with powder compact and sapphire clasp.
It has a blue sapphire gemstone set in the clasp; and the little tab below the compact can be pulled down to open the spring loaded lid of the powder compact. It snaps shut tightly to keep powder secure. The mirror is in good condition; with only very slight haze. It also comes with the original powder puff.
The piece is hallmarked "Piccadilly Pat'd Whiting Davis" on the inside back of the powder compact.
The exterior of the frame has a lovely engraved Victorian design on the front of the purse. The compact has a gorgeous old script letter that is hard to make out, but appears to be a "G".
The piece is in beautiful condition, but it does have some light tarnish patina; which is common with these vintage mesh purses.
The piece is approximately 7 13/16 inches from the clasp to the bottom of the purse. The strap adds another 6 inches. The strap has two engraved sliders with flowers that adjust to fit your wrist. The frame measures 3 inches wide by 3 3/4 inches. Measures 4 1/4 inches across the bottom of the bag.
The Piccadilly purse was introduced by Whiting & Davis in 1922. It's a charming piece to use or display.
