Guilloche Ripley & Gowen Compact Vintage Gold Plated Powder Compact 1920's
This is a absolutely gorgeous vintage 1920's gold plated guilloche powder, rouge and mirror compact, made by Ripley & Gowan Co., of Attleboro, Massachusetts.
It features a stunning lid that is comprised of alternating tones of green and yellow enamel, with the dark and light green areas being matte enamel, and the others being guilloche enamel. The center of the lid is white guilloche enamel with a hand painted spray of pink flowers and green leaves. The back side is a beautiful pure white guilloche enamel with a spectacular snowflake like design within.
The piece is eight sided and measures 2 1/8 inches in diameter, and is hallmarked on the edge of the mirror R & G Co., as well as patent pending on the interior.
It opens to a compartment that once held loose powder, as well as a covered compartment with a mirror on the inside and the original solid deep pink rouge.
The condition of this wonderful vintage powder compact is very good with some normal very light expected wear that we have listed below.
The compact has a very tiny chip to the clear coat enamel on one of the dark green matte areas at the lower right corner as shown in the second photo (note that it is at the back of the compact when the compact is facing forward) . It is not easily noticed unless tipped to the light.
The compact is just a tiny bit difficult to open. It closes tightly, as does the inner compartment lid that covers the rouge, and the hinges are in excellent condition.
It appears that there was once a handle on the compact that is no longer present.
For the reasons listed above we have priced this compact significantly lower than we have seen similar ones go for.....and are selling this piece "As Is". Most of the compacts we have seen like this one go for over double what we are listing this piece for.....so it's great price for such a lovely and well made compact.
This piece is free from dents, dings, rusts and corrosion. It has no other issues other than what we have listed above, and is a fantastic vintage display piece, and would make a wonderful addition to any vanity or vintage compact collection.
